Revitalized Medvedev Claims Maiden Championship in Over Two Years
19 of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hardcourt
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.
Medvedev, a former number one, has experienced a challenging period, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in particular - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with former mentor Cervara.
Now working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.
This marks the player's initial title after the Rome competition and initial on a hard court after spring of that year.
Success also signifies the Russian has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 various events.
"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my both daughters together, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Medvedev.
"This title is in dedication of my child her name, because the first title I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six finals, comprising in that event earlier this year.
His retrieving play style and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted observers to question if his ability to play at the highest level was concluded.
Yet the player has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and play assertively, supported by an enhanced serving game.
He recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging opponent, securing four of the last five exchanges to go ahead.
Both players exchanged breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his first tour title, seized the initiative to create a final set.
Moutet saved 4 early break points in a tight final set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.
Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the title with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
